      • Discover: Finding Faith in Life

During our In-person monthly classes, children will be using the printed materials that reference a children's bible.  The children will be learning how to handle, respect and reference a Catholic Holy Bible.  It is our hope that they will take this skill into their adulthood!

In between the monthly classes, your child will complete the lessons on the eLearning portal from home.
Keep reading for instructions. Those lessons will be submitted directly to the Faith Formation Office so we can monitor your child's progress.

Discover: Finding Faith in Life! provides a 20-minute, engaging eLearning lesson that the children do on their own in between classes.  Just connect your child to the program online, and they're good to go! You can access the eLearning lessons from any device that connects to the internet.

        THE BAPTISMAL PROMISE
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, parents are the primary educators of the faith for their children. Our Faith Formation programs are designed to support and enhance the parent's efforts.

At the time of your child's baptism, you accepted the responsibility of training him or her in the practice of the faith.  It is your duty to bring him or her up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.

      Grade 7 & 8 (Confirmation Prep)
      • Confirmation Year I (Grade 7)

Our Confirmation Prep Program will now be a 2-year preparation period for grades 7 and 8 designed to deepen each of our teen's personal relationship with Christ, in order to help them be truly ready to receive the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Ours is a combined program for both St. Mary and St. Joseph parishes.

This is our first year using 'Called To Mercy' by Saint Mary Press for Confirmation Preparation. We feel this will best prepare the students to receive Confirmation within a year's time.  There is work on your child's part that is absolutely necessary to be prepared for their 'class discussions' and to be eligible to be Confirmed.  Your child's progress is monitored by our office to ensure they are staying current with their lessons.  The preparation for the class in done ahead of time so they can participate in the class discussion.  All those that do not complete the required work ahead of time will be given an additional assignment to complete; however, this is NOT to replace the preparation process for other classes. This is an electronic program that your child will access through the log-in process and follow the prompts.

The eLearning portion of the program is very flexible and manageable to work within our busy lives! ‘Called to Mercy’ provides a 30-minute engaging eLearning lesson that prepares the student ahead of time for their next class. You can access the eLearning lesson from any device that connects to the internet!

Please access the Grade 8-9 Syllabus to keep your child on track by clicking here:

Please note that Grade 8 and 9 have separate 'YOUTH EVENTS' they are required to attend as part of the Confirmation Preparation Process.  Those dates are clearly marked on their grade-level schedules.  Click your appropriate grade level schedule below:

        CONFIRMATION SPONSOR

        • Each candidate should have their own individual sponsor.
        • The candidate may choose one of their Godparents. This shows the ties between Baptism and Confirmation.
        • The sponsor should be someone the candidate sees as a positive Catholic role model in their life.
        • The parent of the candidate is NOT permitted to be the sponsor.
        QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SPONSOR
        • Must be sufficiently mature in his/her faith commitment.
        • A sponsor can be of either gender.
        • The person chosen must have the intention of performing their role; assume an ongoing spiritual relationship with the candidate and not merely a function as a passive witness to the sacrament.
        • Sponsor must be a fully initiated Catholic, having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
        • Sponsors are to be active members of a Catholic Church.
        A SPONSOR IS
        • A representative of the Catholic Community: The sponsor is the personal representative of the entire Church Community to the individual candidate.
        • A Companion: A sponsor should serve as a companion or a guide for the candidate along the journey.
        • The sponsor should be someone who can give you the support when there is hesitation, understanding in times of doubt and comfort when there is inner conflict. This person should also challenge you when your enthusiasm or interest is at a low point. This companion should be someone you can trust, turn to and talk things over with.
        • A Mentor: A sponsor should be someone who is open to growth in one's faith and putting into practice what the faith requires. This person should be a faith example who you look up to and would like to emulate.
        THE ROLE OF THE SPONSOR
        • Assist in the preparation of the Sacrament.
        • Accompany the candidate and present him/her to the bishop.
        • Help the candidate fulfill his/her baptismal promises faithfully by growing in a faith relationship with the candidate.
SPONSORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE CANDIDATE BY:
        • Deepening their faith relationship with the candidate during the time of preparation for Confirmation.
        • Attending Mass as often as possible with the candidate.
        • Participating in a service project with the candidate if possible.
        • Continuing to be a source of encouragement and guidance for the candidate after receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
        TRAITS OF A SPONSOR
        • A sponsor prays.
        • A sponsor participates in the Liturgy.
        • A sponsor listens.
        • A sponsor is respectful.
        • A sponsor serves as a bridge, helping the candidate understand and become familiar with the people, places and traditions of the Catholic faith the candidate is unfamiliar with.
        • A sponsor respects the candidate's freedom, allowing the candidate to decide whether this is the right time to seek the Sacrament of Confirmation.
        • A sponsor lives in a world of hope, feeling confident in being able to live their faith in the modern world.

How To Go About Selecting A Saint

Following are some sites where you can access information about a variety of Saints. Try researching several before choosing the one whose name you would like to take. How to choose one: he/she stands for something you believe in; he/she is the patron/ess of something you are interested in; his/her name is the name of a loved one, etc…
